Don Moen has, of course, been a mainstay of the US worship scene since the mid-1980s. On 2011's 'Uncharted Territory', Moen offers songs on the theme of the journey through uncertain times; quoting Psalm 137 on the title track is key: "How can we sing the Lord's song in a foreign land?" Most are new Moen co-writes, but other writers feature too, such as Kelly Minter ("My Portion You Will Ever Be"), Matt Maher ("Great Things") and Fielding/Ingram/Mabury ("Burn"). Musically, we know what to expect from Moen. Both the production and Moen's vocals are smooth, high quality, easy on the ear and sure to please fans. The energy increases a little for "No Fear" and "Thank You Jesus" but generally things are mid-tempo or slower and unfussy; occasionally Moen's delivery sounds 'live' as he implores listeners to lift up their praises, although this is not a live album. The lyrics too are clear and direct, as in "Once we were lost, needing the cross, needing a Saviour/He came to earth, a humble birth, born in a manger" ("He Loves You"). Nothing here is pushing any boundaries, but would we expect that from the middle of the road maestro?

Product Description
Uncharted Territory marks Moen’s first worship project in three years and features 13 new songs written by Moen and his friends with the familiar sound fans have loved through the years. The project includes songs of hope, encouragement and God’s faithfulness.

“With all the uncertainty today, many find themselves in uncharted territory, due to circumstances beyond their control, like the loss of a job, sickness or the death of a loved one,” said Moen. “It is my prayer that these songs will help people offer sincere praise to God, even in the most difficult situations.”
