I heard the Rev Woods play when is was 29 years old and was a guess in Cinicnnati. He recorded an album there (title The Lord wil make a way) and I am searching for the songs or the orginal album/CD. This was over 45 years ago.
Thanks
I'm 62 years old and I met and listened to Rev. Maceo Woods play the organ in Tulsa, Oklahoma over 40 years ago. Black music and even gospel music have come a long ways. You mentioned you couldn't hear words because of the loud music - well, on the flip side of hip/hop you can't hear the words - just beats and rhythm. The gospel feeling, whether old time, church stumping gospel or contemporary gospel still has its way of pulling old and young generations together. Sometimes, it may be the beat, the sound of the music that touches a person's heart to God, even if she/he doesn't hear all the words to the song. They will probably say, "I can feel God's presence in the atmosphere! Thank you.
For many years Pastor Maceo Woods' lead soloist was a female with a very high soprano voice. She had the purest beautiful voice. Does anyone remember her name, or any of the songs she sang? Thanks.
Her name is Doris Sykes. And she is still singing up a storm and his choir is still very talented, anointed and inspirational.
