Nice guy narrates Scripture, a bit like the Queen speaks - leaving longer than normal gaps between each sentence. First of 21 songs begins, the singer for this tune is Ruth Everingham; she has a strong voice, in fact this Methodist church has some talented people; nigh on all of them who get to sing are pretty good. There are one or two vocal wobbly bits but it only adds to the homeliness of the project. The songs themselves carry the message well. "The Apostles" is Elvis' "Kid Creole" slightly tweaked, it's a great way to learn the Twelve's names. Hot trumpet solo, a bit rough round the edges, but that's what rock 'n' roll's about isn't it? Neat boogie-woogie piano takes the break over, could I hear some more of that please? "Denial" is not unlike an epic Frank Sinatra number, managing to avoid Sid Vicious' "My Way", but not by much, corny ending though, ouch! "The Council" is a very catchy reggae song. Churches would love performing this musical or even inviting the Market Drayton Methodist church to perform it. All the songs are based around the last few days leading up to the resurrection of Jesus. "Herod" sung by Herod himself (James Aldcroft) is excellently performed, yeah give me some passion. Paul Savill has written some choice songs here. There are obvious limitations to the recording and production but the music is punchy and executed well. Although the subject matter is serious there's a sense of fun about the performance, everyone sounds like they're having fun.
