This is a delightful intro to Asian worship music, the product of South Asian Concern, a multi-racial organisation. Thankfully, those concerned have not overwhelmed Mr Average with a barrage of the unfamiliar. Rather, wisdom has dictated the inclusion of some familiar songs, given a most refreshing spring clean by the wonderful sounds of a wide range of Asian instruments. The new songs paraded are strikingly good, vocals are partly in English, with some Hindi, and the cultural blending is handled with care and sensitivity. There's some smart talent in evidence, vocals are fine except for a slight raggedness on group singing. The excellent Mike Houghton tootles away merrily, obviously relishing the experience. Hurrah! for the new varieties of worship music charging in to save us from sinking under the boring MOR landslide. It's getting safe to buy worship tapes again!
