Running at 71 minutes it becomes apparent that this is an artist not afraid to express his feelings at whatever length. Also the theological nature of this CCM veteran turned associate pastor is strongly evident in tracks such as "Pounding On Wittenberg's Door" (which is ironically the most unrestrained track on the album) where a clear explanation is always given to the motivation behind each sons. However, the integrity of Steve is indicated in songs primarily concerned with godliness, holiness and purity as in the case of the title track. With hints of a Keith Green influence, although the American nature of this North Californian cannot be denied, there is no slipping into whole-heartedly patronism but more genuine motivation in preaching the gospel whole heartedly as in "My America". Indeed the album has something of an epic feel convicted by its own righteous crusade which is reflected in the evocative tunes arrange and produced by Steve himself. With a church organ frequently sounding throughout this set the tone is pure, wholesome and at times even quite heavenly. With 14 tracks on offer there are pearls sung in Steve's passionate style and long time CCM devotees will welcome his return. Certainly the sincerity and devotion of this preacher should not be in question.

Abandoned to God is a landmark album! Along with the music of Keith Green It is something that just keeps on ministering each time it is listened to.
